About Matylda
I’m a tech, startup, media, travel and tea enthusiast based in New York City. I’m the founder of Love Your Layover, a resource for travelers with extra time between flights. I’m also the event manager for hackNY, a non-profit dedicated to attracting programming talent to New York startups through fellowships and hackathons for students from across the country, and write for TechCrunch‘s GreenTech section (read my posts here).
An alumna of the graduate Studio 20 program at New York University, I studied innovation in digital journalism and served as the program’s graduate assistant, maintaining the blog, fielding questions from prospective students, and helping with grant proposals. I also worked with PBS’ channel Thirteen to develop a show and online presence focused on New York City’s start-up scene.
As a staff editor of The New York Times’ The Local East Village, I oversaw the site design. I was also the Community Creator for KeyWifi, a startup that lets you share your wifi for profit.
I’m an executive board member of Tech@NYU, an organization dedicated to the advancement of tech entrepreneurship. We host NYU Startup Week, among other events designed to introduce students to startups. I curated Tech@NYU’s weekly newsletter, which is part of the global StartupDigest network.
My background is in online media, including video, mapping, strategy and product management.
I’ve worked on digital media side of newspapers, where I helped shape online strategy, created multimedia content, trained reporters on how to use geocoding as a storytelling tool, and worked with the marketing department to build out a mobile site and interactive contests and alerts. I also worked for NBC Olympics.
Other factiods:
- My last name pronounced “char-NETS-ka”
- I like tea. A lot. (The beverage, more so than the party.)
- Yes, I know the book/movie “Matilda,” and yes, I know how to waltz :)
To sum it up, I am all about the geeky goodness. Drop me a line to say hello!
